Bear Canyon III

11/22/19  Another trip up Bear Canyon, this time with my Dad shortly after the first snow of the season. Perfect weather, great views, and just the right amount of snow to make for a nice, relaxing snow trek.

A clear, cool November day and about a half mile up from Mt Baldy Village we arrive at the Bear Canyon trailhead. Dad's photo of me at the same spot.

Amazing views made even nicer with a touch of fall color. Heading-up towards Bear Flat, we're surprised how much snow there is on the surrounding peaks.

IMG_0257 There's pretty good snow coverage at Bear Flat, which is at less than 6,000'. We saw the first small patches of snow all the way down at 4,500'!

Up to the pine trees now and we need to don jackets and gloves as its probably about 35 degrees. Extra layers of clothes get added as we near the ridge and the temperature drops.

IMG_0308 The snow is solid as we near 7,000' feet with the valley floor now far below us. We definitely didn't anticipate hitting this much snow.
