5/12/22 A quick hike out to Trillium Falls. Our first experience with the Coastal Redwoods up close. It would be a memorable one.
1 The drive over from Redding was a few hours of quite curvy road, but we made it with enough time to head into the park for a bit.
2 We drove into Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park and found a great elk viewing spot along the way.
3 After stopping by the Visitor Center, we decided to try the Trillium Falls trail.
4 The wildflowers were already starting to bloom.
5 Before long, we got our first up close taste of the Coastal Redwoods. I didn't really have high expectations for this National Park, it almost felt like one to just check off the list. I don't think I've ever been anywhere outdoors that so completely exceeded my expectations!
6 Though they're much skinnier than the Giant Sequoia, they're taller and somehow more majestic looking. This place definitely resonates with me. And this grove of Redwoods was just the beginning!
7 It was one jaw dropping view after another. The sheer height, as well as the density of the trees, is just amazing.
8 Some of the fallen trees help give a sense of the scale.
9 There's lots of nice little footbridges along the way.
10 Made it to Trillium Falls. A great little spot surrounded by electric green foliage.
11 Closeup of the Falls.
12 Video of the Falls.
13 Dad taking in the view.
14 The bright green foliage is almost flourescent. I'm not sure what kind of trees these are, but I love them. I wish we had this kind of green in SoCal!
