1/12/22 A short exploratory trip to try to find the lost trail to Hot Spring Canyon Falls. The trail had been recently reestablished part of the way to the falls after not being used for a few decades.
1 It's a beautiful day with clear views out to the ocean and Catalina.
2 Made it to one of the famous stick signs. This is as far as the trail maintenance group had opened the trail. It would be just following the creek bed from here on.
3 There were a few tricky spots heading down the creek bed.
4 It's a nice little canyon.
5 A couple sections get a little dicey. This must be a great cascade when the water is flowing.
6 We hit a dead end where the creek hits a 20-30ft dropoff. There was supposed to be some sort of trail, or at least a faint path, leading up the slope to the ridge on the right. But after much searching, we couldn't find it, and decided to head back.
7 I took a short detour part way down a parallel canyon to check out the water we heard flowing there.
8 Snow capped Mt. Baldy in the distance.
9 After getting back to the car, we added on a couple more miles heading out from Blue Jay campground and got some nice late afternoon ocean views. We'll find the falls next time!
