Bridge to Nowhere

11/7/19  A third trip to Bridge to Nowhere with my Dad. This time, without time or weather constraints, we actually made it all the way to the bridge! Always a beautiful trail, especially on an empty weekday morning.
Filling-out the permit and getting ready to start our day.
1 A half mile hike from the parking lot down to the trailhead and Barry signs in. Filling-out the permit and getting ready to start our day.
Heading out. Last time here, we would have been sloshing in water at this point. The water is defintely lower and much slower than last time, but actually higher than we expected for this time of year.

The first crossing. Much calmer current than before, but still just as deep. Always fun.

Another crossing. It's a beautiful day, so we warm-up and dry pretty quick after each crossing.

Stopping mid-crossing to enjoy the view.

What the heck is this? Some random bench and sign along the trail. It's pretty amazing someone hauled it up here (and that it's allowed).

Last crossing before the bridge. The water is crystal clear today.

Starting to climb away from the river and up the canyon.

On to private land and almost to the bridge. This may be the first sign I've ever seen warning about "ignorance or general stupidity".

Dad's picture of me at the same spot.
11 We enter the private property and all their warnings. It looks like I'll actually get all the way to the bridge for the first time. Dad's picture of me at the same spot.
Made it to the bridge! After two previous attempts with Dad were aborted due to time and weather, it was good to finally get here and prove it's not just a myth.

View from across the bridge. It really does dead-end into the cliff.

A bit further down the canyon. You can see Dad on the bridge.

It's actually a pretty nice bridge all considering.

Hmm, people are insane to actually bungie jump from here...

It's something like 140 feet down. Wouldn't want that bungie to snap!

Heading back now. Five more fun crossings on the way back.

A lot of people have no idea we have spots like this in SoCal!

The trail gets a little technical in places.

One last crossing. This trail seems to be in some sort of Bermuda Triangle though. The GPS distance never matches the distance listed on maps and signs. And this time, the distance to the bridge wasn't even close to the distance on the way back. Bizarre. Regardless, another great day on the trail!
