5/12/22 Next we take the loop around the Lady Bird Johnson Grove trail. Bigger trees and even more jaw dropping views.
1 After Trillium Falls, we searched the map for another short hike to try. We ended up deciding on the trail through the Lady Bird Johnson Grove.
2 This grove is even more impressive than the one around Trillium Falls. It's hard to even get these trees framed in a photo.
3 A vertical video is one way to do it.
4 Dad checking out the memorial plaque where Lady Johnson gave her speech.
5 Trying to capture an entire tree with a vertical panorama shot.
6 Coastal Redwoods can survive even if their core is entirely burnt out.
7 It's hard to believe that this was one of the later National Parks established. It took years of fighting before finally becoming a NP in 1968. It's even harder to believe that only 5% of the original old growth forest remains, and of that 95% is here in Northern CA.
8 A great spot to get some sense of the scale of these trees.
9Barry provides some scale to the scene as he stands between the trees. Dad's photo of me in the same spot.
10 Looking up through the canopy. There's been a steady drizzle or light rain most of the hike. It seems like it's that way almost year round in this area. Though it makes lighting for photos tough, it makes the greens vibrant, and is unquestionably part of the ambiance. It wouldn't be the same being here on a warm, dry day.
11 Heading back over the bridge to the parking lot. We still may have time for one more quick hike today.
